Lowveld Bitter Tea (Vernonia colorata)
Family Compositae
A shrub growing to about 5m in height found in the Mpumalanga (Nelspruit/Swaziland area).
The roots are thought to contain an alkaloid and is used as a tonic to treat fevers and as a cough remedy.
